As a registered social worker, I see people in terms of their environments. We are all connected and all interdependent on one another. Challenges arise in that larger context, and I believe we have a responsibility to walk alongside each other in trying times.
I graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Social Work in 2017. I went to school for social work knowing that we all go through painful experiences (some people, disproportionately so) but that we do not have to go through those experiences alone. Even if our lives have taken an unwanted turn, things can get better – but we need support for healing to happen. That’s what I hope to give you: empathetic, non-judgmental support, and a safe space to figure things out.
Since I started in this field, I have worked in crisis intervention with people of all ages, with teens who are involved in the justice system, and with bereaved adults. I’ve also provided practical support to people with physical and mental health issues. I’m currently completing my Master of Social Work, also through the University of Calgary, and will graduate in 2021. I aim to use a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approach with everyone, but I believe in tailoring my work to each person, because we’re all unique.
A bit about me:
- Fun fact, I love RPGs and am about to join a Dungeons & Dragons group!
- Other fun fact, the divisive food Marmite is one of my favorites.
- Hiking is one of my favorite things to do in the summer; I finished the Triple Crown of Canmore in 2018. The rest of the time, I love reading, watching good movies, and working out.
