At Reframed Psychological we offer psychoeducation assessments for children (from the age of 4 and up), teens and adults. Assessments are conducted to answer a specific question that addresses the struggles that a person is demonstrating. During the assessment process (for anyone) a variety of instruments may be used to determine your child’s strengths and weaknesses.
For children, psychoeducation assessments are often suggested by a child’s school when they are struggling academically or behaviorally. These assessments can be completed at the school; however, the wait can be long. Some families choose to pursue the assessment through a private practice in order to have the results in a more timely manner. Assessments for children are most often conducted to determine if accommodations need to be made for school or to assist in behavioural concerns either at school or at home, or to be able to access the services of another specialist.
For adults, the results of an assessment may be used to provide accommodations at a post-secondary institution, accommodations at work, for one’s own self-knowledge or to access the services of another specialist.
Following the assessment, your psychologist will write a report that explains the results of the assessment and they will schedule a meeting with you (the caregiver) to discuss the report and any recommendations. It is also possible to schedule meetings with your child’s school if that is necessary.
What can be diagnosed? A psychoeducational assessment can be used to diagnose the following: specific learning disorders, ADHD, Oppositional Defiance Disorder, Conduct Disorder and Personality Disorders.
